Indian Instit utes Of Management (IIM)
Indian Institute of Management are commonly called as IIM in India. These have captured the students attention as one of the prestigious educational institutes of India. IIM’s offer a variety of management courses and several Post Graduate programs. IIM’s are also responsible for developing a fresh breed of management professionals who are confident and extreamly very skillfull. They were created by the Indian Government with the aim of identifying the brightest intellectual talent available in the student community of India and training it in the best management techniques available in the world.
IIM Admissions
The CAT (Common Admission Test) conducted by the IIMs is a very competitive test conducted for admission to around 1250 graduate programs in management at the seven campuses, and is usually considered one of the most competitive exams in the world, with a supposed success rate of about one in two hundred. Each institute conducts group discussions and personal interviews to evaluate the students shortlisted after the test.
Reservations at IIMs
Around 50% of the seats are from the General category, that is that they are filled through open competition. Around 230,000 students compete for less than 1200 general seats (As per 2007 figures) in the IIMs. There is a 22.5% reservation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes students and 3% reservation for the PWD (Person With Disability) students. It was announced by the govt that reservations will be increased in a phased manner to 50.5% in IIMs with rest of the reserved seats going to OBC (other backward classes) candidates. IIMs would implement the OBC reservations in a phased manner during three years.

CAT Eligibility
The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA)categories], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

59.13%.I am going to write CAT 2010. Do I have any chance in IIMs I mean my academics scores are not good,will they select me if score well in CAT 2010?

only 50% of them get job.
but this is not the case of only engineering or MBA
even 50% of the arts graduate go unemployed
My opinion if if one studies well , or shines in his studies then he will surely succeed in his career.
Ask your son to get above 90%.
