JEE Main 2017 Counselling by JoSAA

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority conducts the counselling for JEE Main 2017. Online mode is the only model for counselling for this national level examination. For the JEE Main 2017, JoSAA will conduct the counselling in 6 rounds. These rounds are for admission to the 92 institutes that participated in the JEE Main 2017.

Counselling for admission:

The seat allotment and also the counselling are for admission to 20 IIITs, 31 NITs and 18 other GFTIs. In this process, candidates will have to register; they will have to fill out their choices. Also, they should lock their preferences. The process will tentatively begin from the 1st week of July 2017.

Counselling for different categories:

There will be separate counselling for different categories for JEE Main 2017.  Candidates clearing the JEE Main examination are eligible to take part in counselling. Here are some details about the process. The counselling will take place in the following categories:

  • For home state candidates to education programs at the NITs and Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BITM)
  • Other state candidates to educational programs at the NITs and BITM
  • All candidates for courses at the IIITs
  • Other state candidates for educational courses at the other GFTIs, other than BITM.

JEE Main 2017 Counselling and Seat Allotment Process:

As the JEE Main results were recently out, here is the counselling process for JEE Main 2017:

  • Online registration
  • Online choice filling and locking
  • Seat allotment
  • Fee payment and seat acceptance
  • Reporting to allotted institution

First step – Online registration:

The initial step is that candidates should register themselves with the JoSAA website- JoSAA registration. If they already registered, they can move on to the next step of online choice filling and locking. If they are not already registered they should follow the steps given below:

  • They should enter their JEE Main 2017 Roll number and password
  • They should click on the login button and should click on the register now option. They should carefully go through the instructions.
  • Once the candidates go through the instructions, they should click on the ‘I Agree’ button.
  • This will open up the JoSAA registration form, where they should fill up the required field
  • They should check the declaration box and should click the submit button.
  • Before they click on the confirmation registration button, they should cross-check the details.

Second Step – Online choice filling and locking:

Candidates can fill up the choices without paying any extra fee for the same. Candidates should fill up their choices under the prescribed date. Before submitting, they should not forget to lock their filled choices. If they forget to lock their choices, those that they saved before will be automatically locked.

  • Here, you will have to choose the kind of institution, the name and also the courses for which you apply.
  • Further, they should click on the choice filling and locking option. Here, they will have to select their choice of courses.
  • It is better to select as many options as possible. They should make their choices in decreasing order of preferences.
  • Candidates can choose to change/edit or delete their filled choices.
  • Candidates should use the lock choice option before the last date. Once they lock the choices, it is not possible to change or edit.
  • Candidates can use the locking of choices after every round of JEE Main 2017 counselling. Candidates can fill up and lock the upgraded choice in the consecutive round.

Seat allotment:

JoSAA will consider the following factors in allocating seats:

  • Category of the candidate
  • All India Ranking of the candidate in JEE Main 2017 list of ranks
  • According to the priority order of choices of candidates for courses and institutions.
  • Presence of seats in varied seat categories. Or seat quotas for which the candidate is eligible.
  • Business rules:
    • Candidates will receive the intimation through their registered email ID. They may also get the SMS on their registered mobile number. They will get this intimation a few days after locking their choices.
    • Candidates should download the seat allotment letter.

Fee payment and seat acceptance:

The seat acceptance fee for reserved category candidates is Rs.20,000. For general category candidates, it is Rs.45000.

Reporting to allotted institution:

Reporting to the allotted institution is the final step in the process. Candidates will have to reach the allotted institutions along with the following documents.

Candidates to submit the following documents at the respective institution:

  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • Mark sheet of Class XII
  • JEE Main 2017 Score card
  • Proof of date of birth
  • JEE Main 2017 admit card
  • Proof of seat acceptance fee payment
  • Photo identity card
  • Provisional seat allotment letter
  • Three passport size photos (the same copy of the one used for registration)

There would be students, who can be from the states of Union Territories with no NIT. For these candidates Home State Quota will be the closest NITs. The seats for candidates from such states will be more than the Home State Quota of the respective NITs. The home state quota for NITs will happen as per the table given below:
