Reason for the reduction in cut-off:

Coaching experts state that the toughness is the reason for reduced cut-off scores. But, most candidates found the papers to be easy to moderate. They are of the opinion that physics and chemistry were easy. Mathematics was even easier as compared to other sections.

Admissions on the basis of JEE Main Score 2017:

As far as the number of candidates, who took up JEE Main 2017, the number reaches 10.2 lakhs. Out of these candidates, the top 2,20,000 will get the ticket to appear for JEE Advanced. The advanced test is on the 21st of May 2017. This is for admission to about 11,000 B. Tech seats in about 23 IITs in India.

Also, the JEE Main score will be the criteria to select candidates to 24000 seats. These seats are among 18 GFTIs, 20 IIITs, 31 NITs and 23 IITs in India.

Class XII score:

CBSE said that she will not consider the score of class 12 for computing the JEE Main ranks. Even so, according to the new rule, candidates should have at least 75% of marks in class 12. The percentage required for SC/ST candidates in class XII is 65%. Otherwise, they should have got one of the top 20 percentiles in their respective states.

Candidates should meet this to become eligible for admission to IITs, GFTIs, and NITs. These institutions will get a common counselling through Joint Seat Allocation Authority.

For PWD Candidates:

For PWD candidates, the cut-off is the same as the lowest of the cut-off for ST, SC, OBC-NCL, and general categories.

JEE Main Ranks Vs. Marks:

According to the marks secured in JEE Main, CBSE will allocate all India rank for candidates. Candidates with good marks will get higher positions in the rank list. This method applies to rank all candidates.
