UPESEAT 2016

UPES stands for University of Petroleum and Energy Studies and UPESEAT is the Engineering Admission Test conducted by the university for admission to the B. Tech and B. Des course offered by the university in different streams.

Eligibility Criteria:

Exam pathway: Among the total seats 80% of the seats will be filled through the exam pathway followed by the university. For this, applicants must have secured at least 60% of marks at the Higher and senior secondary level, which means 10th and 12th standard. They should have secured at least 60% of aggregate marks in mathematics, chemistry and physics at the senior secondary level.

Non-exam pathway: Candidates can also choose non-exam pathway according to which they must have secured a board merit of 80% of marks both at 10th and 12th classes and at the higher secondary level they must have secured at least 80% of aggregate marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Admission Criteria:

Exam pathway: Candidates choosing the exam pathway will have to take up the UPESEAT and this will be followed by centralized counseling. For candidates applying to B. Des. course, in addition to UPESEAT, a separate design test will be conducted for one hour duration on the same day of the engineering entrance test. This will be followed by counseling through merit secured in the UPESEAT.

Non-exam pathway: Candidates choosing this path, if they have JEE main scores, they need not have 80% of marks in the qualifying 10th and 12th examinations mentioned earlier and they can have 60% of marks in these examinations

About UPESEAT:

The last date for receipt of OMR/Online application is 3rd of May 2016. The test is planned to be held on the 16th of May 2016 from 9.30 to 12.30 pm.

Scheme of test:

The test will have 200 questions in total, which is divided into the following sections:

  • Mathematics – 50 Questions
  • Physics - 50 Questions
  • Chemistry - 50 Questions
  • English language comprehension - 30 Questions
  • Current Affairs Awareness - 20 Questions

Age criteria:

Only the applicants, who have born on or after the 1st of October 1993, are eligible to apply for admission. Their date of birth as entered in the secondary education board/university certificate will only be taken into consideration and authentic. The university has an admission policy that about 20% of seats will be filled through board merit/JEE main merit category. However, if candidates for this category are not available, the university reserves the right to fill these seats through the merit secured by applicants in UPES examination itself. Also, the university reserves the right to conduct further physical or online test for admission.

Admit card:

Candidates can apply online until 3rd May 2016 and on the basis of the information they provide in the application form, admit cards will be provisionally prepared and will be uploaded on the website of the university          on the 10th of May 2016. Applicants can download the same and should bring the admit card with duly attested photo affixed in the space provided to the exam center.

Yes, many universities from across the country including Thiruvananthapuram offer this course through distance mode and the prestigious of them is IGNOU, Annamalai University to name a few.
