Engineering Admission Process in Goa

Entrance test:

A Common Entrance Test is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Goa for the candidates seeking admission to first year degree course in engineering (B.E)and various other courses.

Eligibility Criteria:


The candidate must have passed HSSC (10+2) Examination of Goa Board or an examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi or any equivalent examination and must have obtained minimum percentage of marks in specified subjects.

First Year B.E
Candidates who have passed the HSC of the Goa Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with English, Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and one of the following subjects as optional-

Chemistry/Bio-Technology/Computer Science/Biology and must secured not less than 50% marks in aggregate of above subjects.

Candidates desirous to appear to GCET should be an Indian citizen. Non- resident Indians holding Indian passport may also apply for seats reserved under NRI category. Foreign Nationals and Persons of Indian Origin holding non-Indian passport must apply to Government of India.

No age limit, minimum or maximum is specified for admission to Engineering.


GCET shall consist of five papers ( Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Computer Science). Candidates are permitted to appear only for those subjects, which they have studied and registered for at H.S.S.C Examination.

The test pattern of GCET will be of objective type of questions. A sample format of the Objective Response Sheet (ORS) which shall be used as answer sheet is available at inside cover page of the brochure. Candidates are advised to go through the instructions printed on the sample ORS and get familiarized with its use.

Each paper will consist of 75 questions to be answered in two hours and each question shall have four choices for answers, out of which only one shall be correct. Correct answer shall carry one mark for each question. There will be no negative marking for wrong/multiple answers.

Candidates must produce Photo Admit Cards for appearing in the test at the designated centers

The syllabus prescribed for the GCET will be based on the syllabus of the standard 12th Board Examination with subjects Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science .Candidates can obtain the syllabus of the GCET from the information kit


The application form and the prospectus of the GCET can be obtained from the Directorate of Technical Education on payment a prescribed fee in cash. Outstation candidates can obtain the prospectus and application form by sending request to 'Managing Director, Goa Education Development Corporation , Mezzanine Floor, EDC House, Dr. Atmaram Borkar Road, Panaji, Goa-403001' along with a DD for said amount in favour of Goa Education Development Corporation, payable at Panaji.

The prospectus contains the following documents/information:

  • Application Form for GCET (Form A)
  • Application form for Admission for all the courses (Form B)
  • Syllabus for GCET in all subjects
  • A compact disk (CD) containing about 8000 sample questions and answers, for all the subjects included in GCET.
  • A sample Objective Response Sheet (ORS)

Candidates should specify the code correctly in the application form for the center they preferred. Any request for change in choice of papers and /or center selected / allotted shall not be entertained after issue of the admit card. The Admission Committee will allot the examination centers for the candidates according to the availability of the centers and that will be mandatory on the candidate.

Candidates should submit the application form(A) for GCET in person at the Admission center, along with the exam fee as demand draft that is payable to 'Goa Education Development Corporation' and three photographs. The candidates should obtain the photo- admit card from the Admission Committee on the same day itself. The Application form for GCET shall not be accepted by post or through messenger.

In case, the schedule of GCET changes, the same shall be notified in the designated newspapers. Telephone enquiries should be avoided, as the candidates themselves will be responsible if the information received by them on telephone proves to be incorrect.

Both NEET and AIPMT are conducted for admission to MBBS and BDS Courses, NEET is national level test, while AIPMT is conducted by CBSE for admission to these courses in government medical and dental colleges of all places including Kanchipuram
