There are many people who wish to complete M.Tech from India but there are some people who want to complete the same from USA. Study abroad has its own importance. Either the education that is completed from USA is recognized and valued all over the world.
In India Most of the people want to take admission to the CS Master's course in the Indian institutes of tech (IIT's in India). But always this will not work.
So finally either due to reservations or their bad luck the aspirants take admission in the top private M.Tech colleges in India so that they can complete their M.Tech Degree.
One Candidate shared all his experience as he had gone to US for higher studies.
The candidate did BE in Computer Science and Engineering from Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College, Anna University in 2006. He wrote the CS GATE Exam in the 3rd year and got 87 percentile. Then again wrote GATE Entrance exam in the final year and flunked badly. This time he did not prepare even a bit for either exam hence couldn’t score well in 3rd year but good marks in Final year.
The GRE Scores that he got were 1290/1600 (800 Quant+490 Verbal-September 2005. TOEFL entrance score was something like 285-290/300 same time. Again he didn't attend any coaching classes for GRE and the preparation was very limited.
The aggregate for BE was 76%. He was having keen interest in Computer Science research he did not do any proper research on any fieldd he started off with the Neural Networks and Fuzzy logic, changed to Networks, Chaos Theory and then finally settled in Game Theory.
He applied to the below mentioned universities for doing MS
1.Purdue University, West Lafayette
2.Washington University at St.Louis
4.University of Cincinnati
5.University of Rochster
6. University of chicago
8. Illinois Institute of technology
And finally he got admission in Illinois Institute of Tech. At that time he also had the job at Hexaware Technologies. Hence he came for IIT Chicago he did his MS without any research or specialization, graduated from there and now working as a software Engineering in the Financial Industry.
The duration to complete the course is somewhere between 1.5 yrs to 3+ years but usually it takes 2 years
The total expenses that the candidate will require for the whole duration will be about 20 lakhs.
Now again the total expenses depends upon the type of university i.e private or state and also in the location.
There are many universities where you can find many monthly paid campus jobs but in other universities this is also very difficult.
There are even lots of Universities where one can monthly paid jobs easily in On Campus. There are even many Indian Students who even have a chance to work in resorts, in departmental stores and in restaurants etc.
But jobs again after graduation doesn't come so easily if you don't have good contacts and are not enough lucky then you need to work very very hard.
Why should people opt for MS in US over M.Tech in India?
Studying in US will definitely give you the best feeling. It will make you feel global. You get to meet there tons of new people and all will be from different backgrounds and cultures. In such cases education wise there are many wide options. The professors and the teaching staff are also very good over there. There is a minimum and the maximum duration to complete the course. Most of the aspirants over extend the course in order to earn good amount of money and explore more about the places there.
There are even equal amount of professors and research advisors available in India but the options that are available is comparatively less. Yes, the degree of the importance will vary
There are two sequences here
1. Fully/Partially Funded Institutes: There are state universities or very good private universities and here no need to worry about the majority of the educational expenses there just one should meet the monthly needs. Your funding might either be because you are a teaching Assistant, Research Assistant or simply work on campus for which the universities waives the fees. The consultancies can tell you more about fully or partially funded Institutes.
2. Slog yourself/rely on Loan
If you are lucky enough then you will save some money for your 3rd semester after working in the summer otherwise all around it would be difficult.
If you lucky enough to have enough i.e you’re funded or got an internship or simply rich then you can to see the different places in US. There are so many places there to explore as a student. As the candidate goes there for the higher studies so he or she should for sure visit the maximum places.
There are even many Universities in India who can study in IIT's, IIsc, TIFR, and IIIT. But on the broader scale there are is no match for the facilities that are offered by the US Universities. But most of the candidates who cannot arrange for loan for higher studies in abroad plan to Study in India. And in order to study M.Tech in India Colleges the entrance exam will be conducted and the aspirants have to score well in the exam in order to get the free seat.
I am not sure how many people like getting settled in US but most of the people come here for higher studies, they get a job and then settle here. The Material life in USA is not matched with that in India at least with the middle class families.
Reasons for going to Study in USA for higher studies
1 He was not getting admission in any of the IIT's/IISc/TIFR.
2. Most of the aspirants go to study in USA as they want to explore the new places and wish to feel the real world.
3. Most of the people have just the craze to go and study in USA.
Most of the people go for higher studies as they feel that B.E degree was insufficient, hence they feel to do MS to complete their education.
