Indian Institute of technology Kharagpur has proved the best in terms of campus placements compared to other IITs. It has set a new benchmark by providing the students the best jobs in the first attempt in the month of December.
Next comes IIT Kharagpur placements with 900 offers and IIT Delhi and Kanpur with 750 and 700 offers respectively.
The flipkart and Housing.com provided the multiple offers with good and high salary package.
More number of students are being hired from the company to 195 this time. A new Engineering branch i.e the financial Engineering and Engineering Entrepreneurship was made a big hit by recuirting more number of students in this.
Apart from these starts up company there were also many company that came for the placements are Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Shell, Deutsche Bank, Schlumberger, ITC, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Abbott and EXL etc.
The highest International Package that was offered to the IIT students was Rs 77 lakhs, while the highest domestic package that was offered was Rs 37 lakhs.
IIT Bombay provided placements to 843 students and 245 companies had come to visit the campus for placements.
IIT Bombay says that this year they are expecting 350 companies to offer the placements.
IIT Bombay had seen 10 to 15% hike this year compared to last year. The multinational companies like Microsoft, samsung, google, facebook, Intel have come for the placements.On the other side a student from IIT Delhi placed 570 students up to December 16th.
IIT Kanpur Placement report by December 1st placed 125 students from 20 companies.
Most of the students in IIT Kanpur were placed in 7th semester or 8th semester and will be joining the comppany by May once they complete the graduation.
For IIT Bombay there were many mixed numbers of companies that came for the recuirtment. Here Google picked picked up three people for the California office and seven for the Indian office. The world Quant Investment Company offered Rs 38 lakhs package per year and picked up four students and the private equity firm the Blackstone offered Rs 35 lakhs.
IIT Roorkee placed 340 students in the IT Sector. The major companies that provided the placements were Google, Oracle, Morgan Stnaley, Goldman Sachs, tata motors, reliance indusries and many more.
The start up salary that was offered in IIT rourkee was Rs 8 lakhs to 16 lakhs per annum. Google offerd $1,25,000 per annum with additional bonus and stock options for a position in global positions in head quaters califoronia. Overall 8 students were offered the positions in the overseas in the first 6 days of the placements at IIT roorkee.
IIT Kanpur says that there was even plan by the companies to pick the students even in the 5th semester and 6th semester but later it was dropped as it would disturb their academic studies.
The head HR of L&T company said that there was increase in the trainee who joined the company in the financial year between 2010-11 and 2011-12 but now the pattern has been changed 4,000 trainees per year will be recuitred like graduate engineer trainee,postgraduate engineer trainee and diploma trainee.
Companies that came for placements were broadly categorised into the four types i.e the consulting firms, the investment banking companies, the IT Companies that include the internet based firms, the software companies and the traditional large recuiters.
There are major Indian companies including the reliance industries, the Larsen and turbo and Asian paints who came for the placements.
Most of the experts say that the placements have always been good and better for the top colleges, but not a good story for the middle level colleges.
Only 20% of 2 lakhs graduates out of 3600 engineering college get placed every year in the suitable jobs.Most of the engineers who don't get job work as sales engineer and there is no link between what they studied and what they do.
Due to slowdown 20% of the students in the year 2012-13 failed to get placed compared to last year.
Out of 1421 students who registered for the job only 77% got placed.
Due to this reason most of the engineering seats were vacant. For freshers salary that is provided by IT Majors like Infosys, wipro and tcs has remained the same.
The growth in the percentage of engineering institutions in India has come down and seats in the engineering colleges are not getting filled.
Only half of the engineers get jobs in their first year of completion of the course.And still today there are many students who spend so much and never get jobs.
