The top 6 methods for the International Students to Contact Home

One of the biggest concerns for most of the students who are studying abroad is keeping in touch with the relatives. Moving across the globe and adjusting in the new country with new life and new people can be complicated. Hence calling home will give lot of support from the parents, siblings and friends.

Family and relatives want to know how your are reading, while the candidates may be busy most of the days but should try call home at least once a week to make them know that you are safe, healthy and happy.

Students call home for a very important reason i.e to ask for money. If you are short on cash and want your parents to transfer funds into the bank account then calling home is must. But then keeping families ties and freindship is also very important. Most of the students every year go to abroad for higher studies. Students prefer study in USA, Study in UK as one of the best destinations.

There are several ways to contact home below mentioned are few among them

1. Mail Services

Writing a letter home is fun if you enjoy writing. It is not a great way of communication though using the national mail company or the other global services such as FedEx of UPS is quite expensive.

Often the letter will take a long time to arrive.

2. Regular Phone

Everyone knows the regular phones. Whether you live in residence on campus or off campus in regular apartment you will likely have access to a phone line. Phones are simple and easy to use and connections are usually fairly secure. Regular phone lines are expensive  and cost upto $30 in a month just as a flat free. Calling overseas known as long distance calling costs quite a lot unless one can  secure a specail plan with the phone company.Bottom line don't use phones to call home.

3. Cellular Phone

These days many people use cellphones. Mobile phones are more convenient to use as you can carry them around. One can also get really sophisticated phones and gagets that will allow you to access the internet and play the awesone games. Simple cellphones will also cost about as much as the regular phones while he new cool ones will cost a lot again and again and also charged at much a higher rate.

There also may be potential health risks associated the cellphones although these aren’t proved. Its fun to have a cellphone for the local calls but calling home is far too expensive.

4. International Phone cards

A much less expenisve yet convenient method of calling overseas is using the phone cards. You can find these at many convenience stores and other locations across the globe quite easily. They come at different costs $5, $, 10, $20, $50. Using the phone card will help you to follow the instructions on the back and be allowed to dial anywhere in the world for a low price depending upon where you are calling. This is much cheaper than using the regular phones or cell phones so this method would be great in terms of keeping in touch.

5. Email

At the school you are likely to own a computer or else hae access through libraries or computer labs. Emails are free to use in most cases and also they arrive much faster than the paper letters. Email also solves the problems ofthe time zone shifts you may find it difficult to call home because the times are different and the Emails are great!!

6. Instant Messaging

These days there are several programs that can allow will you to stimulate phone conversations over the internet. MSN Live! Messenger is a very popular program as it is Skype. These will allow you to have real time conversations for free and with the use of webcam you will even be able to see the family which would be great.
