Common Proficiency Test, shortly called as CPT is conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for admission of students to the intermediate level of the Chartered Accountancy course offered by the institution. The test is planned to be held in two sessions on the 14th of June 2015 Sunday in about 164 centers around India, which will be decided on the basis of number of applicants for the test. The test will be held in two sessions morning and afternoon on the above-mentioned date in the following manner:
In the morning session, which will be held between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm, there will be two sections A and B and in the afternoon session that will be held between 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm on the 14th of June 2014, there will be two sections C and D, to test the basic accounting knowledge, mercantile law, general economics and quantitative aptitude of candidates.
Not only in 164 centres across India, the test is planned to be held in three overseas centres namely Kathmandu, Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well. The institute reserves the right to cancel any examination centre without specifying any reason for cancellation.
Applications for taking part in the CPT should be submitted in prescribed form. Interested applicants can get the application form from the Deputy Secretary (Examination), ICAI Bhawan, New Delhi on payment of Rs. 1500/-. This amount includes Rs.1000 towards application form and information brochure and Rs.500 for examination fee. The cost of application for candidates applying for Dubai and Abu Dhabi centres is US$170 or its equivalent Indian currency. For applicants from Kathmandu, the cost is 1850 INR or its equivalent foreign currency. Candidates need not have to make any fee payment at the time of submission of application form. The application form and information brochure can be obtained by applicants from all regional office of ICAI. From these centres, applicants can get the application form on payment of the appropriate fee by cash from the 7th of April 2015.
Filled in application:
Duly filled in application forms should be sent to the Deputy Secretary (Examinations) at New Delhi before the 28th of April 2015. Application submission after this date will not be entertained on any grounds. Applications can also be submitted by hand delivery at the Decentralized offices of the institute up to the 28th of April 2015.
Candidates can also apply online through the website of ICAI from the 7th of April 2015 to the 28th of April 2015 and can pay the required examination fee of Rs.500 by online using debit/Master Credit/Visa card. Those applying online will not be charged Rs.1000 towards the cost of application and information brochure.
Who can apply?
The Common Proficiency Test is open only to candidates, who have registered with the ICAI for the Common Proficiency course on or before the 1st of April 2015 after fulfilling the required eligibility requirement.
CPT is an objective type examination and not only English, candidates can opt to take up the test by getting booklet of question paper in Hindi Medium as well. Applicants can find detailed information in this regard from the information brochure before applying.
