Oxford-Indira Gandhi Graduate Scholarship i.e. The Oxford Graduate Scholarships

Two foundations i.e. Oxford Foundation and Indira Gandhi Foundation mutually agreed to ground breaking funding initiatives for creating a fully-funded program for encouraging post graduate studies through scholarships. The scholarship is not limited to only Indian students; it is for students across the world. The scholarship program was started from the year 2016 – 2016.

The criteria for the scholarships are for the students with excellent academic records and with the ambition of undertaking “ground-breaking research works” and contributing to the frontier knowledge. 40 % of the fund comes from the university’s coffer and the balance is contributed by the numerous supporters’ generous donations for the academic causes of colleges and universities.

Which institutes are directly involved in the scholarship program?

Both the University of Oxford and Somerville College have established the scholarship program in the name of Indira Gandhi Scholarships. The Government of India is generously supporting the program.

Eligibility of the program

1)    An applicant must be either a resident of India or have passed out from any Indian recognised university.

2)    The applicants must be ready to demonstrate exemplary academic excellence and fully prepared to carry on the academic studies in the University of Oxford under the research program’s objectives.

3)    Any student, qualifying for the scholarship, must have ambition towards sustainable developments of India, what may be the challenges ahead.

4)    After finishing the study program, the scholars are expected to come back in India and help others to imbibe the excellence of the study and take up significant role in different types of sustainable development problems.

The Oxford-Indira Gandhi Scholarship program is designed in such a way that the result can translate researches of high calibre to make stamping impacts in the societies. The motto of the research is translating researches of high magnitude into stamping social impacts in the fast progressing country i.e. India.

What are the benefits of the scholarship?

100 % of the college and university fees are covered in the scholarship.

Further to this, grants of living cost, amounting to £14,057 are granted to a budding scholar in this immensely useful program. The full course liability and the associated expenses (as already explained) are covered in the scholarships.

The courses attached with the scholarship

Any eligible candidate, desirous of taking admission in any of the following courses can apply for the scholarship:-

  • All DPhils
  • Master of Public Policy
  • Master of Science in Management, Biodiversity and Conservation
  • Master of Science in Environmental Change and Management
  • Master of Science in Contemporary India
  • Master of Science in Water Science, Policy and Management
  • Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL)
  • Master of Philosophy in Development Studies

The above mentioned courses are conforming to the Centre’s agenda for undertaking inter-disciplinary researches which can benefit India with sustainable developments.

Impacting themes connected with the scholarship program.

How the academic programs can make impacts on Indian societies? It can be known by seeing the concerning issues like energy, water & food security, environmental conservation, law, gender, governance, healthcare & medical researches.

The center entertains independent proposals, which can benefit India, but must conform to the objectives of the society.

The conditions of the scholarships

Academic merit, society’s inter-disciplinary aim and finally applicant’s understanding of the challenges of the developments needed for India, are the conditions to be fulfilled for getting the award. The candidates with the entrepreneurial potential and leadership qualities can qualify for the scholarship. Any candidate, who wants to defer the offer, will not be considered for the program. After all the formalities are over and the selection process ends, the candidates will be sent to Somerville College for taking up the scholarship.
