Are Private Tuitions Poisoning Indian Education

The increasing demand to perform better in the field of education has pushed many students from around the country to take up special coaching privately, in addition to school/college education. Even though, this approach is gaining more and more popularity around the nation, it is stated that it is slowly, but gradually deteriorating the traditional school education system. Experts in the field of education are suggesting that if appropriate corrective actions are not taken, the day of private tuitions replacing the schools will soon be experienced.

What do experts suggest?

Educationists suggest that the central government should bring about some reforms in the country to end the parallel education system called as tuitions. They further add that nowadays, it is hard to find students in the Indian education system, who does not take private coaching for at least a single subject.

Senior classes:

When it comes to students from senior classes (i.e.) those studying at class 8 or above, many students regardless of the financial situation of their parents are enrolling in private classes. When it comes to those from financially strong family, they are taking up private coaching for four or five subjects. The strange thing about this type of private education is that every student takes it. When it comes to bright students, they are taking up such a private coaching just with a view to score more, while weak students of course look this as the means of getting through.

Attitude of students and teachers:

The worst thing here is that students pay lesser attention to the teachers at school, just with the hope that they can manage with the tutor on any concept that they miss out at school. When this is the case of students, teachers are also not giving their best throw up with the hope that children will learn from their private tutor anyway. This means that the entire education system is made a mockery of.

What do parents do?

Most of the parents, particular mothers are spending a better part of their day in driving their kids around for different coaching classes for different subjects or even a single coaching center for all subjects, wherein different tutors take care of different subjects.

Most of the parents, particular mothers are spending a better part of their day in driving their kids around for different coaching classes for different subjects or even a single coaching center for all subjects, wherein different tutors take care of different subjects. As the private tuition niche is highly disorganized, parents are not able to judge whether the fee they are paying towards private education of their children is fair enough.

Fee charged:

The fee for these private classes generally varies based on factors like neighborhood in which a student lives and the subject for which he is enrolling. For instance, when it comes to towns, villages and suburban cities, the fee will be lesser, while in the case of metropolitan and hi-fi cities, the fee generally is on the high end. For instance, it is known that parents in cities are paying somewhere between Rs.800 to Rs.1200 per hour for tuitions. Even, some established tutors are charging more than this amount. When it comes to subject, obviously, the Hindi tutor charges less as compared to a math tutor.

So, it is now time to take the preventive measures for preventing these private tutors from replacing the schools.
