India’s first private open and virtual Arvind Agriculture University was commenced in the year 2013. Presently it is offering agriculture courses to farmers without any age bar and specific restrictions. The functioning of this university started in the month of January. The study centers and training programs will be first started in vidarbha and state and gradually spread all over the country. The universities also have applied to the registration for distance education New Delhi and are expecting to get in two weeks.
The syllabuses of the courses are completely different from other Agriculture universities and are also quite innovative. Arvind Agriculture (open and virtual) universities are conducting classes for the farms near Nagpur and are also receiving good response from the people. The university uses all the latest technology's that is being used in agriculture and also they teach the farmers directly in the virtual classrooms.
One of the basic and important points in agriculture is marketing, which will now be addressed by the university. It has started the marketing by exporting nearly around 700 tons of mangoes from western Maharashtra in this coming summer. Next they are planning to export vegetables from that region. Growing vegetables is one of the pilot projects here at Wadvihira in katol, rural region of Nagpur, for demonstration and even they are planning to export around 500 tons of vegetables.
Arvind University has also aimed a paradigm shift in farm education by offering tailor-made courses. They have already planned around 50 courses which will have daylong workshop as well as 4 year Ratna without any age bar or qualifications.
Here the students in agriculture universities will be give practical knowledge to improve the agriculture practices. The courses we design will be concentrated on local needs. For example in Vidarbha where cotton, soya bean and paddy are main crops the varsity will design specific courses for these crops. The former president of Maharashtra said this statement.
The Arvind Agriculture University also will offer three month certificate courses, a diploma course degree and post graduate specialized course. All the latest technology and methods will be used to increase the crop quality and yield. A recent report also said that world class scientist also will be hired to teach latest farming methods.
Fee structures and enrolment formalities are yet to be decided. But there is no age bar and anyone wanting to learn farming can join the courses. However the fee structure will be affordable was said by the head of the university.
