This course was introduced recently, by the Department of Geography of this university with a view to support the initiative taken by the Indian government for reduction of the risk of disaster.
- To make the students familiar about the types of disasters their occurrence and the nature via a scientific understanding of the anthropogenic, geological and geomorphic processes and analyzing their vulnerability.
- To educate and to train the course takers on the fundamentals of management of disaster for a single or more than one hazard scenario.
- To improve the role of educational institutions in preparing youth in different areas of management of disaster through training and education. The attention will be laid on community mobilization, strengthening of institution mechanisms and mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction strategies. These things are done with a view to create a disaster resilient society.
The attention of this diploma course is on creating a link between theoretical and practical approach via observation, careful analysis and assessment or areas that are prone to hazard. Both field visits and lab based training sessions will be offered to the course takers.
