You must have read numerous articles on how the interview is the most common method for assessing a person's suitability for a job. The employers want to gather more and more information about the candidate. Across the globe, employers are depending on the interview as a method of selecting the suitable candidates. Western as well as eastern world generally operates according to the principle of supply and demand. There are different factors that determine how much a person will be paid: the type of the job, nature of job, complexity level of the job among various other factors. In this rapid changing market were companies operate in a harsh environment, challenging economic climate, long term employment is rapidly disappearing. The key to cracking the interview comes from within. It is based on our knowledge, skills and knowhow. In today’s business climate one must be assured of the fact that there is no such thing as a secure job. It is in the perspective that the performance in the interview becomes very important and in here we will discuss two types of interview: Group interview and promotion interview.

 

Group interview comes into the category of the screening interview. This format is often used by employers when a number of applicants must be seen t determine a candidate’s potential. In such an interview, a candidate is interviewed with several other candidates. The purpose is twofold: if the candidates match the basic requirements of the job or not are ascertained and also, the communication skills and interpersonal skills are also judged of the candidate. One must radiate confidence that you can effectively deal with the demanding public and that you are calm and collected high pressure.  These qualities are imperative to doing the job well. The intimidating format goes in favour of the employer in the sense that it aids them in a speedy elimination process.

 

Promotions are an internal source of recruitment which are highly common and practiced by almost all organization. Knowledge on company’s policies and rules and regulations and other background of the company is an obvious added advantage to the employee. But if one thinks that promotions are automatic and bound to happen then one is definitely mistaken. One must concentrate on developing and presenting their skills and abilities. Before the interview one must remember to polish their interview skills. Work hard to explain the leadership qualities. The research, practice for answering questions and role-playing certainly pays off.

Interview isn’t hard as many people make it sound and nor is it that easy one may presume it to be. Best is to be yourself, the true self in an interview and keep your calm and cool at all times. Always bear in mind that job security no longer comes from being employed. It comes from being employable. Employability consists in accumulating knowledge, skills and a reputation that can easily be translated into success and invested in new opportunities. Remain visible, mobile and credible. One must be on a lookout to never overspecialize. One needs to remains completely aware.
