Key Areas To Concentrate When Preparing For Personal Interview

MBA Admission would have been easier to many candidates, if the entrance examination scores and the marks secured by candidates in the qualifying examination alone are considered for selection. But, the difficult part for most of the candidates after successfully completing their qualifying degree and entrance examination is the Personal Interview and Group Discussion process, popularly called as PI and GD. To succeed in the PI round, it is important that candidates should understand what, why and how of this process and here are some details to help them:

What does PI test?

The aim of this round conducted by the admission committee is to get a better understanding about the candidates. It can otherwise be called as the opportunity given to the aspiring managers to showcase their suitability for getting admission to the top B-School. Whatever the candidate has specified as his interests and areas of specialization will be tested at this round and the academic background and general awareness of the candidate will be tested. So, what are the areas to be concentrated by candidates when they are preparing for this round after having received call letter from a reputed B-School? Let us find here:

Knowledge:

The important point to be remembered by candidates is that the Master of Business Administration programme is demanding and needs the aspirants to have adequate field-related knowledge. So, it is recommended that candidates should gain knowledge on the specialization in which they have applied for or planning to apply during the second year of the course. The important point to be remembered under this heading is that the most common questions asked during PI are ‘Why MBA?’ and ‘Why MBA in this institution?’ So, candidates must prepare the best possible answer for this question.

Clarity of goals:

To the above-mentioned question, candidates can give the best answers only when they have clarity of thought about their future goals. The panel will look for inner motivation of the applicants and an honest self-assessment will help candidates identify their goals and will help them achieve the best clarity of thought on their goals.

Communication skill:

Effective communication skill is an important key to succeed in PI.

Communication skill:

Effective communication skill is an important key to succeed in PI. This session is all about communication of ideas and goals of candidates to the panel. Even though, some candidates have clarity about their goals, due to their inability to communicate the same properly, they are getting rejected. So, right from their higher secondary level, the aspirants should take true steps to improve their communication skill. In addition to good communication skill, good listening ability is also highly important and even candidates can request for repeating the question if they cannot get it, but they should never be in a hurry to answer without understanding what the panel wants to hear. They will be attending interview with experienced admission panel and they can easily trick the candidates, so to succeed, good communication and listening skills are important.

In addition to these key areas, another important area to concentrate is the commonly asked interview questions and aspirants can collect details in this regard from reliable sources online.
