Nursing is backbone of medical field

Almost every person in the world visits doctors in hospitals, community clinics or doctor’s clinic. Though the doctor plays the lead role in that place to judge what’s the patient suffering from and what drugs would help the patient to cure the illness but there are other people playing a crucial role. Those people are the nurses, ward boys and few others. Though everyone has a significant contribution here, but the nurses are considered as the backbone of the medical field. It is not just an opinion but we have strong reasons supporting the fact.

The reasons why nurses are considered as the backbone of the medical field are:

Doctors are Anchors, Nurses are performers

It’s obvious that the doctors deserve the credit for their expertise and treatment they suggest to the patients but the nurses are equally deserving for their work. For instance, ever country has traffic rules for better functioning and management of traffic. What if nobody follows it?  For sure, it will be a mess all over and the rules will be of no use without practiced. Similarly, once a doctor writes a prescription, it’s the duty of the nurse to keep a check that everything goes smooth and all the things are in place. Nurses have to make sure that the drugs are served at the right time and in right amount.

Similarly, once a doctor writes a prescription, it’s the duty of the nurse to keep a check that everything goes smooth and all the things are in place. Nurses have to make sure that the drugs are served at the right time and in right amount. Even if a doctor makes an effective prescription, if the dosage and care of the patient is not done properly, it’s all in vain. Hence it’s the doctor who anchors the show, but it’s the nursing that drives it.

Balancing the Doctors-Patient Ratio

In developing countries like India, we do not have as many doctors as needed. Currently we have 1 doctor in almost 2000 people out of which not all practice at a great scale. One doctor cannot serve so many people. It is the nurses who act as the backup for the doctors and relieve them from the embarrassment and hectic day.

Expertise in medical field

Nursing is not an easy job. You have to be brave hearted and qualified because a simple mistake might risk someone’s life. Nurses go through a hard training both academic and practical.

Parents to the Patient

Nurses are not there just to ensure proper medication. They have to take care of the patients in every way. Thought the patients do not know the nursing staff personally, yet the nurses have to take care of the patients every need. For incapable patients who could not carry on their daily needs by themselves, nurses have to help them clean their beds and other things which any other person would deny to do for a stranger. Thus, the nurses are like family for the patients in the hospital.

Nurses take care of the patients even they know them or not. They deal with the sensitive cases and help the patients overcome the illness. For Psychotherapy area, this becomes even more dangerous and sensitive because such patients can harm them and even their life may be at risk.

What do they deserve and what they get?

Sometimes patients and their family behave rudely to the nurses and put them in embarrassment. Sometimes even tempered people even harass the nurses and make them feel low about their job.

We should understand that nurses are doing a great job as this job takes a lot of dedication, personal feelings towards strangers, long shifts and sacrifice of personal life as well. People should give a thought to it that, most of us, now a days fear to talk to strangers, whereas nurses dedicated their entire life in care of others.

They are the accelerating forces of the medical field and hence they should be rewarded.
