Now, with all the happiness, you will have the small concern about performing well in your personal interview and group discussion. Remember that the call letter is an invitation to take the challenge and I am talking about group discussion. This is one of the crucial aspects of evaluating your efficiency, knowledge, people management ability, communication skill and team coordination skills, which are highly essential for individuals to become successful managers.

Attributes evaluated during group discussion:

In general, group discussion during admission to the management programmes evaluates the following skills of candidates:

  • Knowledge
  • Independent thinking ability
  • Ability to resolve conflicts
  • Compatibility to differences
  • Boldness
  • Reasoning ability
  • Leadership skills
  • Communication skills
  • Competence of working as a team

Now, when you are preparing for Group Discussion, the best thing you can do is to discuss as a group with a team of your friends on topics of your interest. Also, it is better to remember the following 4 faults to avoid during group discussion:

  1. Getting emotional: This is the important mistake done by many candidates, which in turn makes them to lose their chance of getting admission to their favorite B-school. You should be calm enough and should know how to express your thoughts in a gentle manner. Try not to get emotional or excited and you should practice how to control your emotions when you take part in the Group Discussion.
  2. Putting forth irrelevant points: When you give quality points that will add value to your team, your team-playing ability will be given better marks. When you keep yourself updated about the current affairs, you can add value to your group or to the points you put forth during GD. Avoid points that are not relevant to the topic discussed.
  3. Statistical sin: Even though, the selection panel will be impressed when you give some sort of statistics to add value to your points, it is better not to give statistical data unless and until you are sure. Giving wrong statistics can degrade your value among the interview panel.
  4. Not showing confidence: Some students fail, just because they do not show their confidence in the points they put forth during group discussion. When you are confident, you can drive the group in the right direction, which will be of great help to the interview panel to judge your leadership ability, which is important for future managers.
