After higher secondary board examinations, the Indian students are worried about the right path to choose. Some opt for conventional courses after their higher secondary, while most of the students go with the latest trend of taking up professional courses like engineering and medicine after their higher secondary. There are entrance examinations for different professional courses in India like engineering, medicine, fashion technology, design, etc.

When it comes to admission to engineering courses, many states in India had their own common examinations earlier, but there are some states in India like Tamil Nadu, wherein no entrance examination is conducted for engineering admission. While this is the case of some states, some states take the score of central level examination for admission. Earlier AIEEE and IIT JEE exams were conducted for admission to different engineering colleges across the nation and for admission to IITs respectively, but nowadays, there is a single common entrance examination. Now, let us get into the details about some competitive exams that can be taken up by Indian students on completion of their higher secondary course:

Joint Entrance Examination (Main):

The score of this test is taken as the admission criteria for admission to the UG level engineering courses in NITs, IITs and other centrally funded engineering colleges in the nation. Not only these institutions, those funded by state governments in the nation also offer admission to students on the basis of this score. But, those interested in taking admission to the IITs in India for engineering courses will have to clear the JEE (Main) to qualify for the JEE (Advanced). The score of the latter is also important for admission to IITs, but this is not applicable to other institutions. Earlier state level entrance examinations were conducted by the states of Odisha, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Maharashtra and Gujarat, but now institutions in these states offer admission on the basis of JEE (Main). So, those interested in taking up engineering admission in these states will also have to apply to JEE (Main).
