National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology is shortly called as NCHMCT and it is an independent body that functions under the Ministry of Tourism of the Indian government. This council holds the central responsibility of regulating the educational course called B. Sc. Hospitality & Hotel Administration, apart from 9 other courses. These courses are offered in 21 Central Institutes of Hotel Management across India. In addition, 16 state government institutes and 14 private institutions that offer hotel management courses are also affiliated to this body. For different professional courses, all these institutes follow the same curriculum as designed by the council.

About B. Sc. Hospitality & Hotel Administration:

This course is offered by the council in collaboration with IGNOU. This three year course divided into six semesters will provide the right kind of knowledge to students with different skills, attitude and knowledge required to take up supervisory positions in the hospitality industry. In addition to theoretical knowledge, in-depth laboratory work also form part of the course curriculum. This sort of education is offered with a view to make sure that students can get the skills needed to work in different departments in the hospitality industry like food production, housekeeping, front office operation, food and beverage service, etc. Apart from these things, the course also offers managerial inputs for different sectors like tourism management, tourism marketing, strategic management, financial management, facility planning, HRM, hotel accountancy and food safety & quality.

Eligibility requirement:

To apply to this course, aspiring candidates must have completed their higher secondary or its equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects. Admission will be based on the score in the qualifying examination and merit secured by students in the entrance test called as NCHMCT JEE. This Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the council can be taken up by students doing their higher secondary course on provisional basis. Counseling will also be conducted at the time of admission and if these candidates cannot produce the certificate of higher secondary, their provisional admission will be called off automatically.

Age limit:

The upper age limit is 22 years on the date of admission for general category candidates. For reserved category candidates, the upper age limit is 25 years. Date of Birth as given in school leaving certificate of class X board examination will be considered. Candidates will also have to submit physical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner.

The council states that about 80% of the graduates of this programme are appointed through on-campus or off-campus recruitment process.

The first position is held by Delhi AIIMS, followed by Vellore’s Christian Medical College, AFMC, Pune, Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi and the fifth position is held by the GGMC & SIR J.J. Hospital in Mumbai, you can also find some good colleges in Barddhaman- Burdwan Medical College

In India, the present duration of MBBS course is 5.5 years, The actual course period is 4.5 years and one year of rotating internship should be completed, you can find some good MBBS colleges in Chitradurga-Basaveswara Medical College and Hospital
