The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has set new rules for disallowing admissions in post graduate management courses directly with graduation marks. AICTE has made it mandatory for admissions only on the basis of entrance exam marks.

Maharashtra and many other states admitted students without entrance exam in MBA courses. 11,000 seats remained vacant and then the government gave permission to admit students without entrance exam marks. Even with this criterion of non entrance exam, 6351 seats in MBA remained unoccupied in 2016.

With the increasing demand for MBA graduates, many new colleges opened. There are over 4 Lakhs seats for MBA all over India including 24,995 seats in Maharashtra. Maharashtra itself has 366 management colleges.

AICTE has given the notice a week before the entrance exams for MBA are to be conducted by different institutions. Inspite of the suggestions from many to make MBA one year course as like in many foreign countries like UK, AICTE has issued that the MBA courses should be a two year programme this include PGDBM.

AICTE also has plans of developing a single model curriculum which can be used across all MBA institutions. A committee will be formed to fix fees and management institutions should get approval for the fee from the fee fixation committee. AICTE also has set rules that admissions should not begin before March 31 and the academic session should be from 1st of June till 31st of May.
