An announcement was recently released that XAT 2016 is going to be conducted on the 3rd of January 2016. This exam is the only exam through which admissions are made for the flagship PGDM course offered by the XLRI, which is one of the prestigious B-Schools in the nation. The great thing about this institute is that the past students have grabbed great positions with attractive placement packages in top corporates. However, to get admission to this prestigious institution, it is important that the applicant will have to score high in the entrance test. Not just XLRI, but nearly 100+ B-schools admit students on the basis of this score.
Second largest test:
This test holds the pride of being the second largest among the management entrance tests conducted in the nation. This position is held after CAT.
Valid for multiple institutions:
This is a national level test that enables the test-takers not only to seek admission to XLRI, but they can get admission to many other institutions based on this score.
This is the most notable feature of this test. The reason is that the testing authority generally publishes the question paper along with answer sheets apart from the answer sheet of each candidate in public domain to help students to identify how they were given marks. This will help students in identifying the areas in which they will have to improve, when they have plans to take up the test again.
Paper and pen based test:
Like in previous years, in the year 2016 also, the test will be in paper and pen based format. When asked about the reason for the same, the authorities said that they wish to maintain rationalism, such that candidates from different backgrounds can take up the test with ease. They need not have familiarity with computer operations to take up the test. Also, this mode is followed to make sure that all candidates get the same set of questions and there is no partiality among test-takers.
Multiple choice and descriptive type questions:
Like other management entrance test, this test will also have both MCQ and descriptive type questions. It is announced that in the year 2016, there will be four MCQ sections and an essay writing section. The descriptive type will be of essay writing format, while the MCQs will constitute, quantitative ability, decision making & awareness, English language & logical reasoning and quantitative ability.
Sectional cut-offs will be applicable and test-takers can switch between sections:
The test will not restrict the test takers from moving from one section to another within the allotted time. But, all sections will have their own respective cut-off percentiles.
GK and essay writing:
This section will not play any role in the calculation of percentile of the test takers. But, few institutions like XLRI will use this section for finalizing candidates before admission.
Like other tests, this test will also carry 1/4th of negative mark for every wrong answer and so test takers should be careful about this.
