CAT or Common Admission Test:

This test is of course, the most popular entrance exam for MBA admission in India, which is conducted by the IIM. Not just IIMs, but many other B-Schools admit students on the basis of CAT exam score. Presently, online application process is going on for the CAT 2016 test. Every year, more than 2 lakh students appear for this test. The purpose behind this test is to assess the following skills:

  • Data interpretation
  • Quantitative and
  • Verbal ability

CMAT or Common Management Admission Test:

Being the second largest MBA entrance examination in India, this test is taken by around 1.5 lakh candidates each year. This test, which is conducted by AICTE, is relatively newer to this niche, as the first test was conducted just in the year 2016. Even though, it is relatively newer, about 500 MBA colleges in India admit students on the basis of this score. Earlier, this test was conducted twice a year, but from this year, it is expected to become a yearly test. The sections in this test include:

  • General awareness
  • Language comprehension
  • Logical reasoning and
  • Quantitative techniques

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT):

This is yet another popular MBA Entrance exam in India, conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur. Nearly a lakh candidates take up the test each year. Not just XLRI, the scores of XAT is accepted by more than 100 B-Schools in India. Candidates are tested on the following areas, when they take up XAT:

  • General knowledge and essay
  • Decision making
  • Logical reasoning and English language
  • Quantitative ability

SNAP or Symbiosis National Aptitude Test:

This test is conducted by Symbiosis University and as the name of this test denotes it is a national level test. It is true that this test score will be valid only for admission to one of the 13 institutes functioning under this university. However, many other colleges are also considering SNAP score for admission. Candidates are tested for their efficiency under the following sections:

  • Analytical and logical reasoning
  • General knowledge and current affairs
  • Data sufficiency, interpretation and quantitative ability
  • General English

NMAT by GMAC:

NMAT stands for NMIMS Management Aptitude Test and this test was recently acquired by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) and this is why it is renamed as NMAT by GMAC. The following institutions will admit students on the basis of this score:

  • NMIMS institute
  • Alliance University
  • SRM University
  • BML Munjal University
  • VIT University
  • Ansal University
  • ICFAI B-School

This year, this test will start on the 6th of October and will continue until the 19th of December. This is stated to be a candidate-friendly test because the test-takers will be allowed to take up the test for three times and the best scores out of the three will be considered for admission. The following skills are tested:

  • Logical reasoning
  • Quantitative skills
  • Language skills

Management Aptitude Test (MAT):

MAT is of course, one of the most popular MBA entrance exams. Nearly 600 institutions across the nation accept the score of this test, which is conducted by the All India Management Association. The special thing about this test is that it is conducted for four times a year both as computer-based and written test. Recently,The following sections are forming part of this test:

  • Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Data Analysis and sufficiency
  • Language Comprehension and
  • Indian & global environment

IIFT Exam:

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) test is institute-based like SNAP. But, unlike SNAP, admission on the basis of this test will be offered only for IIFT, Kolkata and Delhi campuses. This test analysis the following abilities of the test takers:

  • Quantitative analysis
  • Logical reasoning
  • General awareness and knowledge
  • English comprehension

ATMA:

AIMS Test for Management Admissions is yet another national level examination for admission to different top MBA colleges in India. This test is conducted for analyzing the following skills of test takers:

  • Verbal skills
  • Quantitative skills
  • Analytical reasoning

State-level tests:

When the above-mentioned top MBA entrance examinations are conducted at national level, there are also state level test conducted for admission of student to the MBA colleges within the particular state. Here is a list of such state level tests:

  • Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MAH-CET)
  • Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) Admission Test
  • Odhisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) MBA
  • Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT)
  • Andhra Pradesh - Integrated Common Entrance Test (APICET)
  • Telangana State Integrated Common Entrance Test (TSICET)
  • Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET)
  • HP University Management Aptitude Test (HPU-MAT)
  • Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET)
  • Madhya Pradesh Management Entrance Test (MP MAT)

Apart from these state-level tests, many other institute level examinations are also conducted in India.

Of course, when talking about MBA entrance exams in India, CAT exam, MAT exam and Symbiosis University SNAP Test are highly popular. However, there is another test called GMAT, which stands for Graduate Management Aptitude Test, which cannot be stated as Indian test as it is conducted all over the world and this score is taken for admission of students to universities all around the world.

Graduate Management Aptitude Test:

GMAT test constitutes the following sections:

  • Verbal reasoning
  • Quantitative ability
  • Integrated reasoning
  • Analytical writing assessment
