All about IIMs and the CAT Score

The CAT 2016 results have been announced. Like last year even this year IIM Bangalore and IIM Indore will not consider the CAT Scores for the final selection rounds. Here the two IIMs will be shortlisting the candidates on the basis of CAT Scores for the group discussion, the written ability test and the Personal Interveiw rounds.

The remaining 6 new IIMs and the 5 old IIMs would carry out the final selection round by giving the more weightage to the CAT Score.  All the IIMs have announced the cut off in their respective website. The candidate needs to calculate the respective scores so that they would get the idea from where would they get a call. Here the IIMs will not announce the exact scores instead they will declare the percentiles   that are calculated on several factors like number of test takers and the ddifficulty level of the exam.

Even though all the IIMs use the CAT Scores for shortlisting the candidates for the GD/WAT and the PI rounds but still the importance is even given to the candidate profile that includes the past academci record, the work experience, the gender and the academic diversity factors.

IIM bangaore and IIM Ahmedabad consider the CAT Score , past academic record and the work experince of the candidates, while IIM Calcutta gives importance to the gender diversity factors, the past academic records and the CAT Score.

Jainik Delhia the CAT 2016 topper said that he studied only for two weeks. He said that he is good at QA and Maths. He also attended CAT 2016 exam and score 99.71 percentile so in these weeks at the time of preparation he took nearly 6 mock tests.

The marks obtained by jainik Delhia are he scored 200 marks in section 1, 160 marks in section 2 and the total was 360/400.

Jainik is a pass out of IIT Bombay from the mechanical branch engineering 2016 btach. Currently he is working as a consultant at pricewaterhouse cooper for the lastt 6 months.

Jainik also won the scholorship during the JEE preparation and will guide the NGO Students as a part time job.

Jainik said he didnot attend any coaching he just prepared for the test  and attend the mock test.

First time he had written the CAT exam in the 2016 this is his second attempt. Last time he called call from IIM -Calcutta but this year he got the call from IIM -Ahmedabad and IIM -Bangalore.

Jainik would be giving the first prefernce to IIM-A and then IIM-B.

Right now he is attending the classes and the sessions on how to crack the interviews and also he keeps update on the latest news and the current affsirs.

Jainik says it depends on the person that how much time he needs to prepare for the exam.If the candidate is good at quantitative and analysis skills then he should concentrate more on preparing the vocabulary and the logical reasoning. Hence it depends from person to person. It depends on the person whether he or she should go for coaching or not. One has to concentrate on those topics in which he or she is week.

Jainik father works in a manufacturing company while his mother is a housewife. Jainik is interested in working in a corporate office rather than business.

Jainik says that concentrate more on weak areas during the preparation.Few IIMs have the individual cut off for each section and hence one should be prepared for these cut offf's.  Few tips for the CAT aspirants

Make sure that while studying you should get to the depth of the concept that you are studying. Dont learn the problem try to approach towards it.

This will help you lot in the quantative section.

For the verbal section one thing that will help you getting good marks is understanding of the paragraph.Understand what is given in the paragraph and answer to that questions.

Another topper from Delhi Anirudh Batra who is a sports enthusiast scores the perfect 100. Anirudh batra scored 99.98 in the quantitative and the over all  percentile was 99.99.  He is BE from bits pilani.

He says while preparing for the exam the candidates should always concentrate on the weaker areas. Lots of revision and the Mock test will be felpful. One should just keep preparing for CAT exam and not worry about the results. He got a call from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM shillong so he will later in the end which one to go for.
