When applying for MBA in top B-schools in India, it is important that the aspiring candidates must understand that filling out the application is the important step that should be carefully taken by them. Even though, it is something considered simple, it is as crucial like the other preparations done by candidates for entrance test, group discussion and Personal interview for admission. The important point to remember here is that a weakly written application can bring about a lot of difference between selection and rejection of the application of any candidate.

When it comes to applying for MBA, the application form is something important and here are some of the common mistakes done by candidates in their application that should be avoided:

Stating career goals poorly:

Generally, the essays in MBA should revolve around the career goal of the applicants and what they expect from the MBA course. So, it is recommended that before even beginning the essay writing process, it is important to have a clear plan as to what the candidate is going to write. They should be careful about not scattering the information all over, but should maintain a logical flow in the essay. Also, it is important that the essay that should accompany the MBA application should have clear reasons about why the candidate is planning to do this course and how will it help in achieving the career goal. But, many candidates fail to mention these details in the application.

Not specifying ‘value addition’:

Not only for products, but also for aspiring MBA candidates, there must be some value addition in the application. Candidates should clearly specify their worth towards the course. Also, they should specify some of the best talents they can bring to the table. It is always a give and take policy and so in addition to what the candidate can take from the institution; they should also specify what value they can add to the name of the B-School.

Differences in interview response and essay:

The crucial thing to remember is that candidates should maintain consistency in their career aspirations and interview responses and any other career related information the candidate provides in the essay. Any differences in these will land the applicant in troublesome situation. So, it is recommended that they should read their essays carefully and should have a thorough knowledge of the content therein before they appear for the personal interview session. In addition, they are also recommended to keep their interview responses in line with what they have specified in their essay.

Choosing a wrong recommender:

It is important that the applicants must choose their recommendations wisely. Here, selection of a person who knows them both professionally and personally can be the ideal choice. It is not essential that the recommender should be someone of higher designation, but he/she should be someone who knows the candidate and his/her skill set. The recommender should be someone, who can highlight the professional maturity and achievements of the candidate.

When these mistakes are avoided, the application for MBA can turn out to be highly successful.
