Conditions to be fulfilled in the qualifying higher secondary:

Applicants must have obtained at least an aggregate of 75% of marks in PCM, if the applicant has taken mathematics in BITSAT or it should be 75% in PCB, if he/she has opts for biology in BITSAT 2016. Also, the applicants must have obtained at least 60% of marks in each of these subjects individually.

Only those applying for higher secondary in 2016 and those, who have completed their higher secondary in 2016 are eligible to appear for BITSAT 2016. If a candidate has taken more than a single attempt in higher secondary, only the marks obtained in the latest attempt will be considered. Also, students who are presently studying at any campuses of BITS are not eligible to apply for this entrance test. Admission will be purely on the basis of merit. Not just BITSAT score, but higher secondary qualification will also be considered for admission.

Board toppers:

In the past, the institute has always ensured that all board toppers should get guaranteed admission and this is done with a view to provide the best education to the meritorious students from around the country. Accordingly, first rank of all central and state boards in India will be given direct admission to the course of their choice, regardless of their BITSAT 2016 score. Toppers can gather further details in this regard from the official website of the institution from the 20th of May 2016.

Test details:

BITSAT 2016 will be a computer-based test, which means the test takers will have to sit in front of the computer and the questions will appear on the computer screen and the answers should be given by the test takers with the help of mouse and keyboard. Each of the system in which the candidate takes up the test will be connected to a server, which will prepare the set of questions and will deliver the same to the candidates. This is not similar to traditional paper-based test, which is generally offered on a single day to all test takers. The test will be conducted online over a period of days and the applicants can choose their suitable center, day and time.

Format of the test:

BITS Pilani will be conducting the test for duration of three hours without any break in the middle. There will be four parts in the test as listed below:

Part I – Physics

Part II – Chemistry

Part III – English Proficiency, logical reasoning

Part IV – Mathematics/biology

The questions will be of objective type format and there will be a choice of four answers for each with one being the correct answer. Every correct answer will carry 3 marks, while there will be a penalty of 1 mark for every wrong answer. There will not be any negative marking for un-attempted questions. The total number of questions will be 150 with each part having the following number of questions:

  • Physics – 40 questions
  • Chemistry – 40 Questions
  • English proficiency – 15 questions, logical reasoning – 10 questions
  • Mathematics/Biology – 45 questions

There will not be any time limit for individual parts and also the candidates have the option to go back and make corrections to the previously answered questions.

Extra questions:

When a candidate answers all 15 questions without skipping anything, he/she will get the option to attempt 12 extra questions, if there is still time left. These additional questions will be from biology/mathematics, chemistry and physics alone with four questions under each part. But, once a candidate has chosen extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correct in any of the earlier answered 150 questions.

Design of questions:

The convening authority will design the questions in such a way that a good candidate will be in a position to answer 150 questions in 180 minutes. The maximum of 12 additional questions will give a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score even higher. But, candidates are advised to remember that there will be negative marks for wrong answers and so they should not do any guess work, but try to give the correct answers. Otherwise, it would be wise to skip the questions, such that they can finally try for answering them.

The questions will be randomly selected from previous question banks and each candidate will get a different set of questions. An expert committee will make sure that the questions set are comparable difficulty level, question type, content, etc.

Syllabus:

The test will be conducted based on the NCERT syllabus for 11th and 12th classes. Candidates are therefore recommended to refer NCERT textbooks for contents. To help candidates practice, a sample test that demonstrates the features of the test will be made available to the registered candidates at the website of BITS.

BITSAT Score report:

On the completion of the test, candidates can get their score in terms of the total number of correct and wrong answers with score. Candidates can also check and can print the score report at the website of the institution after all the tests are completed. Students will not be allowed to take up the test once more in the same year.

Now for the year 2016, the last dates for applying are over and now it is time for the candidates, who have applied for the test to download their admit cards and this can be done until the 30th of April 2016 and it began from the 20th of April.
