The Chennai Mathematical Institute shortly called as CMI is the center for excellence for teaching and research in the field of mathematical sciences. The institute has invited applications for the following courses offered:
- Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in
- Mathematics and Computer Science (3 year integrated course)
- Mathematics and Physics (3 year integrated course)
- Master of Science in
- Applications of Mathematics
- Computer Science
- Ph. D in
- Computer Science
For both the hons. UG level courses, entrance test will be conducted for admission, so students will have to specify the course to which they wish to apply at the time of applying.
Eligibility for admission:
UG: For both UG (hons.) courses candidates must have completed their higher secondary or equivalent.
- Mathematics – B. Sc Maths/B. Math/B. Stat/B.E/B. Tech
- Applications of mathematics - B. Sc Maths, physics or stats/B. Math/B. Stat/B.E/B. Tech
- Computer Science – B.E/B. Tech/B. Sc (CS)/BCA/B. Sc Math with strong background in computer science.
- Mathematics – B.E/B.Tech/B.Sc(Math)/M. Sc (Math)
- Computer Science - B.E/B.Tech/M. Sc (Computer Science)/MCA
- Physics - B.E/B.Tech/B.Sc(Physics)/M. Sc (Physics)
The courses will begin from the month of August 2016 and applications for the same will be open from the 9th of March 2016 to the 17th of April 2016. The entrance examinations for admission will be conducted on the 18th of May 2016.
When the applications are open from the 9th of March 2016, aspiring candidates can get the application either in person on through online. For all programmes, entrance test will be conducted in the month of May on the date specified earlier in multiple centres across India. The centres include 22 major cities in different states in India.
In the case of Ph. D programmes, there will be an interview at Chennai. For all other courses, the interview will be as per the discretion of the admission committee. On the basis of the prior educational records, candidates may be called for interview by the admission committee.
The institute will provide handsome scholarships for all students to meet their expenses. B. Sc. (hons.) students will receive an aid of Rs.4000 per month, M. Sc students will get Rs.6000 per month and Ph. D candidates will get Rs.16000 per month as financial aid. In addition, students of B. Sc (hons.) will be eligible for additional monthly aid of Rs.1000, which will be made available via generous private donations.
Entrance test model papers:
Candidates interested in applying for any course with CMI will have to take entrance test. For the purpose of practicing, the institute has provided the past question papers of entrance tests for different course entrance tests along with solution keys. So, applicants can make the best use of this resource to get an idea about the type of questions that will be asked, so that they can practice accordingly and can crack the test easily. The admission lines are yet to open and interested students will have to wait for the same until 9th of March 2016.
