FRI Dehradun Admissions 2016

Forest Research Institute University, Dehra Dun invites applications for the following programmmes

a) M.Sc. Forestry (38 Seats):
Three years Bachelor’s degree in science with at least one of the subjects namely Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Forestry.

b) M.Sc. Wood Science & Technology (38 Seats):
Eligibility: Three years Bachelor’s degree with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or B.Sc. degree in Forestry.

c) M.Sc. Environment Management (38 Seats):
Eligibility: Three years Bachelor’s degree in any branch of basic or applied Sciences or Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or Agriculture or BE/B.Tech in Environment Science.

d) Post Masters Diploma in Natural Resource Management (24 Seats): (1 year duration)
Eligibility: M.Sc. in any discipline.

PERCENTAGE OF MARKS (in the qualifying examination):
Candidates having 50% or above marks in general category and 45% marks for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes may apply.

Out of the above following seats are reserved for: (a) SC/ST: 15% and 7.5% respectively (b) Reservation to OBC: will be provided as per the policy of GOI (c) Handicapped (without mobility restriction & partial deafness): One seat in two courses M.Sc. Forestry, M.Sc. Environment Management (d) ICFRE Employee: 5 seats in each M.Sc. Environment Management & PMD Natural Resource Management courses only.

Information Bulletin and application form can be obtained by post by submitting a Bank Draft for Rs. 700/- (Rupees Seven hundred only) payable at Dehradun in favour of Registrar, FRI University, P.O.I.P.E., Kaulagarh Road, Dehradun–248 195.

Application Forms will also be available from the counter of the Union Bank of India (FRI Branch, Dehra Dun). For details please refer to “Information Bulletin” 2016. A candidate who want to apply for two or more courses has to fill up separate form for each course. Information Bulletin/Application forms may also be downloaded from the website

Established as Imperial Forest Research Institute in 1906, Forest Research Institute (FRI) Dehradun, is a premier institution under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE). Styled in Greeko Roman Architecture by C.G. Blomfield, the main building is a National Heritage which was inaugurated in 1929The Institute's history is vertually synonymous with the evolution and development of scientific forestry, not only in India, but over the entire Indian sub-continent. Set in a lush green estate spread over 450 hectares, with the outer Himalaya forming its back drop, the Institute's main building is an impressive edifice, marrying Greco-Roman and Colonial styles of architecture, with a plinth area of 2.5 equipped laboratories,library, herbarium, arboreta, printing press and experimental field areas for conducting forestry research, quite in keeping with the best of its kind anywhere in the world. Its museums, in addition to being a valuable source of scientific information, are a major attraction for tourists.

Admission Procedure

The notification for entrance test is published in the selected leading newspapers including the Employment News in the month of January and the test is held in the month of May. Candidates are selected in order of merit on the basis of multiple choice objective type written test held at No. of centres. 15% and 7.5% of the seats are reserved for SC & ST candidates respectively, who fulfill the minimum admission requirements. Foreign National

Reservation to the extent of 15% of the prescribed seats on supernumerary basis for Foreign Nationals is made for admission to each of the M.Sc. course available in the Institute provided they have passed the B.Sc. or equivalent qualifying examination from a University outside India and also fulfill the following conditions: (a) that the applications are routed through Indian Council for Cultural Relations / Ministry of Human Resource & Development (Dept. of Education), Govt. of India, New Delhi.
