The Graduate Management Aptitude Test or popularly known as G-MAT, is one of the most established and widely accepted management entrance test around the world. Anyone having plans to pursue a degree in management education, and is looking for the elite universities have to be taking up G-MAT to get an entrance into that university or business school. Just like how the elite business schools in India recognize CAT scores, business institutes worldwide consider G-MAT scores to be the benchmark for candidates attempting to enter a business school. Let us look at a brief and precise overview as to what GMAT is and how the test is conducted and reviewed. What is exactly a GMAT test?GMAT is nothing but a standardized test conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).

The test is aimed at picking out the best candidates who have zeal to undergo management education and also have an aptitude to do the same. Their capability is tested through several rigorous tests as part of the GMAT test. The student who excels in this exam is deemed capable to undergo the MBA (Master in Business Administration) course in most of the top universities and business schools. The GMAT test is a test that is delivered in English, it is utilized to asses the business acumen of a student at different levels and paradigms. It also finds out whether the student is good enough to understand and emulate what is taught in the management schools. The method in which the test is delivered to the candidates is called the Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) method, this method not only ensures the transparency of the test but also makes sure that the quality of the test is not diminished. Ensuring that the same test can be taken worldwide, gives GMAT that international appeal and recognition.

Who uses the GMAT scores? The marks scored by a particular student in the GMAT examination are just one of the criterions for a university or institute to choose that particular student. Most of the universities and B-schools around the world who accept the GMAT scores also look for other traits that are present in the student.

Management education is getting accepted worldwide and candidates from many countries like ours feel the need to be education in management and business. From 1st January 2006, the GMAT test became a computerized test and the conventional paper method was withdrawn. The format of the GMAT test still remains the same and is conducted in the same manner in which it was conducted prior to computerization. What exactly is tested in GMAT?The GMAT exam quantifies the understanding of the student in the verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills. This is just to test the skills developed by an individual in academics and work place. The GMAT is not a test in which you would pass or fail, but rather it is a test that is aimed at testing the management aptitude of the candidates in the following areas of importance.

1)Analytical Writing Assessment ( this contains a two 30-minute essay sections)
2)Quantitative Ability (this has a one 75-minute multiple choice section)
3)Verbal Ability (this has a one 75-minute multiple choice section)

Separate assessment and scores are awarded to each of the abilities that are listed above. There is a combined quantitative and verbal score that is awarded in the scale of 200-800.The most important factor to remember while preparing for the GMAT test is that, this test is also an endurance test, and can be a testing experience even for the best candidates. The test becomes difficult if the test-taker is not in the right frame of mind and is not mentally trained to take up the test. How long is the GMAT test? The test consists of a 150 minute multiple choice test in the quantitative and verbal sections/ it has a 60 minute essay section in which 2 essays are required to be written, with a timeline of 30 minutes each. During the test the test taker is allowed to take two 10 minutes break (this is only optional). Totalling all the different sections and the administrative procedures that are involved before taking the test, a candidate would end up spending around 4 hours at the test centre.Apart from the academic requirements of the test, a candidate should make him/her mentally prepared for the test to achieve the maximum. How much does the test cost? The test costs about US $250. This money is consistent to anyone taking the test worldwide. How long is the score of the GMAT valid and accepted? The score of a GMAT test is valid for 5 years from the day you take your test. A candidate can take this test as many times as he or she wishes to take. But the score card would show the attempts and the scores of all the tests taken in the past five years. Most of the business schools only consider the latest scores to choose a candidate.Do you need to take the GMAT?If a candidate is intent on getting into a business school of his/her choice, then GMAT is one of the ways to do it. It not only gives you the global reach to apply for any college or business school worldwide, but also gives you that chance to take up one of the test that is known for its quality. More than 1800 business schools accept these scores. Almost all top business schools also have made a decent GMAT score mandatory for all candidates.GMAT centres in India: You would have to register at the CITO office in New Delhi to book your dates for the exam, the passport information is required for that.Ahmedabad
