SAT is an entrance exam which is mandatory to those aspiring students who want to take admission in universities or colleges of other countries. SAT test is scholastic aptitude test or scholastic assessment test. The idea is to provide colleges with one common criterion that can be used to compare all applicants. SAT exam is owned and recognised by College Board, a private non-profit organisation in the U.S. It is administered and developed on behalf of the College Board Educational Testing Service. The SAT exam is conducted every year in all over the world in October, November, December, January, March, May and June.

SAT exam has been changed to a great extent in last 30 years. In March 2016 SAT made its debut. The matter of the new SAT is very similar to ACT. The major difference is how it is tested and the ways which candidate takes to solve problems correctly. Students usually take the SAT in 11th and 12th. This test is conducted seven times in a year.

There are two sections of SAT from March 2016 – Maths, evidence-based reading and writing plus an optional essay. The part of the essay is different. The duration of completing the test is 3 hours and 50 minutes. The students can prepare for SAT practice test.

Syllabus for SAT Test:

  • Reading – In reading section, some passages are given to students and the students have to understand it. The passages are related to literature, historical documents, social sciences and natural sciences.
  • Maths – In the math section, candidates have to solve the problem related to Algebra, geometry and some questions are from trigonometry. There is one set of “extended thinking” grid in questions.
  • Writing and Language – In this writing and of section, questions are related to grammar. Vocabulary and editing skills are also tested in this section.
  • Essay – This section is optional. In this section, a passage is given of 600-700 words and candidates have to explain that how the author builds a persuasive argument.

 Note – Calculators are allowed only for the math section.

Scores for SAT:

There are two sections in the SAT, and each section of SAT is scored 200 to 800 point scale, making the perfect score 1600. SAT dates are probably coming in October, November, December, January, March, May and June.

The scoring level which is important to clear this test is as follows:

  • Total score (400-1600)
  • Math section (200-800)
  • Evidence-based reading and writing section (200-800)
  • Test scores
  • Math test (10-40)
  • Reading test (10-40)
  • Writing and Language test (10-40)

How to Apply:

Candidates can apply this exam through online on the College Board website. And the candidates can also register by mail by filling out the SAT registration form in the College Board’s the Student Registration Guide for the SAT and SAT subject tests. And a candidate can get a free copy of this publication from their school’s guidance counsellor.

Results for SAT:

The result of the SAT can be obtained through College Board Website after three to four weeks of the test. The test scores are according to section. Every correct answer gives the candidate +1 point and on every incorrect answer1/4 point deducted. No points are deducted in maths section. And the official score report can be obtained after five weeks of the exam.

If a phase I test taker of Pali oe other places is not satisfied his/her performance in the test or if a candidate has missed out to apply for NEET, he/she can apply for phase 2 exam, It is a second chance provided to aspiring candidates.
