Studying abroad has proved to be an experience of a lifetime for many of us, including me. But having lived in London for last three years, I think it truly is a distinguishing study destination, offering some of the great things and opportunities that can only be experienced in London and nowhere else in the world. As so many flights connect through London airports and it is one of the major cities in the world, you will always have someone you know visiting London for one reason or the other. They might just be stopping over during their flights to another destination or staying for a while, either ways you will get to meet people every now and then. Having lived in London you could recommend to them all the right places to go to.
You will be surprised how often you bump into famous people! You might just be working out in the gym next to David Beckham in Canary Wharf, eating in the same restaurant as Bipasha Basu on Edgware Road or shopping at Selfridges next to Shahrukh Khan. And well, there has to be a reason why it is one of the favourite cities of the most important people in the world.
You will have the chance to be part of landmark events in history. Being a metropolitan capital of the world, many globally significant events are hosted by London. These include academic, entertainment, professional and recreational events. O2 Arena hosts the concerts and shows all year around showcasing some of the most talented individuals in the world, Oval and Lords cricket grounds host matches for various trophies, Wimbledon is the heaven of all tennis fans and the list goes on.
There’s so much you can do for minimal entry fees and even free. This includes the art galleries, museums and parks that you can enjoy without having to spend so much money. The sightseeing in London is quite spectacular too!
London is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world, so you are sure to be making friends with people from all sorts of backgrounds, interests and talents.
Many of the world’s leading universities are either based inside the city or in close proximity including London School of Economics, University College London, Imperial College, Kings College, Oxford and Cambridge University and many are exited to study in London.
London has some of the most magnificent shopping malls and markets in the world. This includes Harrods which truly is one of a kind, Westfield Stratford City which is the largest shopping mall in EU and Camden market. Each of these has a different flavour to them which reflects the rich diversity in the city.
London is one of the few cities where you can hire and ride bicycles for free. These are known as the Barclays Bicycles and available in different places across the whole city. Although don’t be mislead, the hire is free for only the first 30 minutes.
Watching movies and TV shows you will be able to recognize the locations as many of them are shot in London. These are only some of the hundreds of reasons that make London stand out from all other places in the world. Be wary though, living in London is not a cheap one but the wages are high too. In the end living the tough and fast paced London life leaves your stronger, wiser and cleverer!
