SBI Clerk Exam Pattern | 2017

  • The selection process will have an online preliminary test as the first stage followed by the main examination as the second stage of recruitment. A test of official and local language subject to the approval of the Indian Government and interview.

The pattern of SBI Clerk Preliminary Examination:

  • The preliminary examination will be the objective type test, and the same will be conducted for 100 marks online.
  • The time for the test is one hour, and the test will have three sections as given in the following table:

  • Candidates have to qualify in each of these three tests by securing pass mark that will be decided by SBI.
  • From the candidates clearing the preliminary examination, an adequate number of candidates will be shortlisted by SBI for the main examination by the number of vacancies.
  • Approximately 20 times the number of jobs is the rule followed subject to availability.

  • As given in the table above for the main examination, there will be separate timing for each test.
  • The questions format will be of objective type.
  • All tests except English will have questions in Hindi and English.
  • The candidate has to pass in each test by passing, and SBI will decide the passing mark.
  • Both for preliminary and main examination there will be the negative mark for wrong answers.
  • For each wrong answer, there will be the negative marks for wrong answers in objective tests.
  • There will be a reduction of a 1/4th mark for each wrong answer.
  • SBI will decide the passing score for each test by the performance of competing candidates taken together in each test to the least required level.
  • Besides passing all tests, candidates will also have to secure minimum percentage of aggregate marks to get shortlisted for the main examination and the interview.
  • From the minimum percentage of marks fixed by SBI, a 5% relaxation is applicable for reserved category candidates.
  • Candidates can get other detailed information about the examination through the ‘acquaint yourself’ booklet that will be made available for eligible candidates along with their call letter for the test.

Interview Phase:

  • Candidates who are passing in the main examination will be placed as per their marks in descending order in their respective categories.
  • Based on the number of available vacancies, only a specific number of candidates among those qualifying by ranking high enough in the merit will be invited for the interview.
  • This will happen in the ratio of top three candidates for each vacancy.
  • Candidates should secure the least percentage of the mark that will be decided by the bank in the interview for consideration to the final interview.
  • There will be 5% relaxation the minimum qualifying mark in the interview for reserved category candidates.
  • Interview call letters will be uploaded by SBI on the official website after the declaration of results for the online test.
  • Candidates should download the same from the site, and they will not get any hard copy of interview call letter to their home by post or through other means.

Test of Knowledge for Official and/or Local Language:

  • Language test will not be conducted for candidates, who submit their 10th standard certificate or mark sheet as evidence for having studied in the official local language.
  • In the case of other candidates, a language test will be conducted at the time of interview.
  • If the interview is conducted, language test will be conducted at the time of interview. Otherwise, the language test will be done before the final selection of the candidates if an interview is not conducted.
  • Candidates, who are identified as not proficient in the local language will be disqualified.

Final Selection of Candidates:

  • For final selection of candidates, marks obtained in the preliminary test (phase-I) will not be considered.
  • Only the marks gained in the main examination (phase-II) will be added to the marks they get in the interview (Phase-III) for preparing the final merit list.
  • The final selection will be made based on the performance of the candidate in the main examination and the interview together.
  • The result of candidates qualifying for the interview and also those finally selected will be made available on the official website.
  • Finally selected candidates list will be published in employment news or Rozgar Samachar.
