Cooking done with care is an act of love. “Chef” is a word derived from a French term “Chef de Cuisine”. Chefs are the ones who bring joy to various ages by making spectacular dishes across the world.
Who is a Chef?
A cook who is talented in all aspects of food preparation of a cuisine is termed as a professional chef. They can receive either formal training through institutions and an apprenticeship with an established chef in a hotel.
The exact definition for a chef varies from place to place. In Hotels and restaurants, they could have various roles which might include in-charge of Kitchen or production department. Their dress code contains hats called Toque, necktie, double-breasted jacket, apron and shoes with steel or plastic toe-caps.
Job Description of a Well-Trained Chef:
They are the ones who not only can cook, but also can lead a team to the kitchen. They can also be termed as the head boss. From knowing how to chop the vegetables, prepare meats and various other technicalities are to be mastered by the chef. They are also the ones who decide how much food will be needed for that week and order food and supplies accordingly.
Thinking of a chef being glamorous is not what it seems. They are the ones who work in an environment that is potentially dangerous. They spend most of their time covered head to toe with whatever food they are cooking. The work that they do not only includes cooking but also cleansing the mess because of its preparation.
Well, being a chef is not that easy as many of us think. Candidates might spend hours in the kitchen, in weekdays as well as weekends, late evenings, and holidays. They should always be ready to work for extended hours; should be prepared to face criticism and be healthy to work in a challenging environment. Around 33 percent of chefs are found to be working in shifts or as a part-time professional. They should also have additional knowledge for service and hospitality.
