Description

College Overview: The Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media (IIJNM) is one of South Asia’s leading post-graduate schools of journalism and media. Located in Bangalore in the heart of India’s high-tech industry, the institute offers an excellent curriculum that combines both theory and practice to prepare its graduates for positions in the media industry.

With increasing opportunities for employment in the media profession, journalism today is a preferred career choice. As an independent institution not affiliated with or run by any one newspaper or media organization, IIJNM is able to maintain a wider association within the industry. With assistance from the college placement department, our students have access to most media organizations for employment opportunities. In the past, practically all our graduates have received one or more job offers from media related organizations at attractive salaries. More about the college…

Course Details: IIJNM offers a curriculum developed in association with Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, New York. Its programs in print, television, radio and online/multimedia journalism embody the best practices in media industry and media technology. Today, the institute is regarded by many in the media community as among the best in journalism study in all of South Asia.

Students study under the guidance of Indian and foreign veteran journalists who are complemented by guest lecturers from the media industry. In summary, by the time the academic year ends, the graduating class is ready to hit the road running in their chosen fields – an unmatched experience among media education institutions for motivated students. Curriculum details…

Job Placement: IIJNM has a record of excellent placement; practically 100% of our graduates have been placed in media organizations at attractive salaries during the past several years. Active campus recruiting is complemented by persistent contacts with a large number of media companies. More on placements…

Campus: IIJNM is situated on five acres of beautifully kept grounds surrounded by rolling hills.

The 30,000-sq.-ft. facility features large classrooms, auditoriums, a sophisticated media lab, library, and conference rooms. Each student is assigned a private study area with a personal computer connected to a network running powerful servers, e-mail, and high-speed 24 hour access to the Internet. Read more here…

Hostel: The IIJNM program requires intense study for one year, and all students must preferably stay in the college dormitory next to the campus, unless an exemption is granted. A convenient and modern residential facility is provided separately for male and female students.

Healthy climate, adequate supply of clean water, and a secure area free of pollution and noise make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. The campus is just 45 minutes from Bangalore city center, and public transport runs very frequently. More on accommodation here…

IIJNM is founded by the BS&G Foundation, a non-profit Trust dedicated to promoting democratic values and institutions in India. The BS&G Foundation is a partnership between the Adi Chunchanagiri Maha Samsthana Trust and The George Foundation. The former also runs several other educational institutions in medicine and engineering, while the latter is engaged in humanitarian projects and environmental issues (see www.tgfworld.org and www.shantibhavanonline.org). As an independent institution not affiliated with or run by any one newspaper or media organization, we are able to maintain wider association within the industry.

IIJNM offers a curriculum developed in association with Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, New York. Its programs in print, web, television, radio and multimedia journalism embody the best practices in media and media technology.
