In addition, the first engineering college in the city named as Arthur Hope College of Technology, which is presently called as the Government College of Technology was established in the year 1945. Now, there is an area called as Hopes College, which is a major city spot in Coimbatore. Followed by this government engineering college, the PSG College of Technology and Coimbatore Institute of Technology were established by private organizations. These two institutions still hold the name as among the Top 10 Engineering Colleges in Tamilnadu. There are government medical and law colleges in this city. Also, the agricultural school that was established in the city in the year 1868 is now functioning as the Agricultural University.
