The educational hub:
As mentioned earlier, Coimbatore is the major educational hub in the state of Tamil Nadu and the first college in this city was established in the year 1875 and this was the Government Arts College. In addition, the first engineering college in the city named as Arthur Hope College of Technology, which is presently called as the Government College of Technology was established in the year 1945. Now, there is an area called as Hopes College, which is a major city spot in Coimbatore. Followed by this government engineering college, the PSG College of Technology and Coimbatore Institute of Technology were established by private organizations. These two institutions still hold the name as among the Top 10 Engineering Colleges in Tamilnadu. There are government medical and law colleges in this city. Also, the agricultural school that was established in the city in the year 1868 is now functioning as the Agricultural University.
As mentioned earlier, when talking about the top engineering colleges in Coimbatore, the PSG College of Technology finds an important place. Now, this institution is functioning under the affiliation of Anna University, which is one of the best known universities for technical education in the country. Before the institute was brought under the affiliation of Anna University, it was affiliated to the University of Madras from the year of establishment to the year 1978. Then, it came under the affiliation of Bharathiar University until 2001 and thereafter, it is functioning under the affiliation of Anna University in Tamil Nadu.
