It has been a long cherished dreamof the people of Santragachi and the surrounding areas to have a degree college in this locality. The dream was gradually turning into a moment. At this juncture Late Sudhir Kr. Ghosh, a benefactor and a Philantheopist agreed to donate his land building situated at Satragachi, Dharmatala, for the establishment of an educational institution. After that into the initiation of the then local M.L.A. Sri Satyen Ghosh and some other important personalities of the area a board of Truetees was formed on 26.11.1984 and some allied organisational activities were undertaken on 10th March, 1985 in a public meeting presied over by Ex-chairman of Public Service Commission Raghu Das Baul and attended by donor Sudhir Kumar Ghosh a resolation was adopted that a degree College should be established after the name of Dr. Kanailal Bhattacharyya, an educationist, public leader and Ex- minister of Commerce and Industries, Govt. of West Bengal.The College was granted affiliation by the Calcutta University & The State Govt. in September 1985. The then Higher Education Minister Late Prof. Sambhu Ghosh graced the inaguration ceremony as guest-in-chief. Before starting raising programmes, a nine-member committee was set up with the then District Magistrate of Howrah Sri Sumantra Chowdhury as the president of the same.
