EXAM PATTERN, SYLLABUS OF UPSC CMS 2017

  • The CMS Exam is based on testing the intellect of a candidate as well as his/ her personality.
  • The examination is divided into two broad categories:
    • Part I- Computer Based Examination
    • Part II- Personality Test

 Part I- Computer Based Examination

  • The first barrier for the candidates is to clear Part-I, which consists of a computer-based examination.
  • It consists of two paper, each carrying 250 marks.
  • The total duration of the paper is two hours.
  • The details of the paper are given below:

Part II- Personality Test

  • Candidates who qualified the first round are eligible to appear for the Personality Test.
  • The total marks of the paper are 100.
  • During this screening, candidates are tested on their ability to speak in group discussion, on current events and general knowledge.

  • Each Paper is of 200 marks.
  • Candidates are required to answer as many correct answers as possible.
  • The exam is a computer-based, multiple choice question type.
  • Every wrong answer results in the deduction of 1/3 of the marks.

Selection of candidates in UPSC CMS:

  • UPSC authority has framed a concrete policy which considers the performance of the candidate during computer-based examination and personality test.
  • A cumulative score represents the overall performance of the candidate.
  • Candidates with maximum marks are the ones given the preference.
  • But, a candidate belonging to SC or ST can be selected over a candidate belonging to general category even if their score is comparatively lower.
  • The selection is regarded to be used under the reserved quota system.
