EXAM PATTERN, SYLLABUS OF UGC NET 2018

  • UGC NET is conducted in three papers called as Paper-I, Paper – II and Paper - III.
  • The paper-I is common for all applicants, which is called as general aptitude paper.
  • Paper II and paper III will have questions from the subject chosen by the test taker.
  • Here is the table that indicates the test pattern:

  • All the questions in all three papers are of objective type format.
  • Each paper has a different standard and different levels of difficulty, which will elevate from the first paper to the third paper
  • The paper I will be general aptitude test, which will have questions from general awareness, mental ability, reading comprehension, reasoning ability, etc.
  • Out of the 60 questions in this section, 50 are to be answered and each question carries 2 marks each
  • If a candidate attempts more than 50 questions, the first 50 alone will be evaluated
  • The Paper II, which is the specialized paper for the applicants based on their choice, will have 50 compulsory multiple choice questions with each question carrying two marks each.
  • The Paper III is also a specialized paper, which will have 75 objective type questions that are to be compulsorily attempted. Each question will carry 2 marks in this section.
  • Candidates will get 30 minutes compensatory time each for paper I and II and also for paper III 45 minutes of compensatory time will be offered.
  • In the case of individuals with more than 40% of disability, they can use the scribe facility, who should be a graduate not in the subject opted for by the candidate.
  • To make sure that visually challenged candidates can also take up the test, UGC will provide the test booklets for all three papers in Braille along with usual test booklets.
  • Candidates planning to use scribe should inform in advance to the Coordinator of the NET Coordinating institution.
